And life just keeps on rollin…

Remember

I just wanted everyone to remember that Monday is Memorial Day.  I know that everybody knows that because of the 3 day weekend and the killer sales that will save tons on ______.  What I mean is to remember what Memorial Day is for.  Take a moment to think about everybody that gave their lives in service for this country.  The many thousands who will not be with their family at the big family BBQ or at the lake taking in the sun.  Memorial Day is not a day to debate the war.  That really is offensive.  It’s also not a day to defend it either because that is equally offensive.  Their are 364 other days in the year to do all of that.  This day, Memorial Day is a day to remember and be thankful for those that sacrificed so much for everyone to argue their beliefs.  Memorial Day is a holiday unlike any other.  It’s not like Christmas or Easter.  Memorial day does not require you to be a “Christian.”  It does not require you to be a Jew or Muslim.  Everyone should take the time remember.  So on Monday, no matter what you’re doing, take a moment say thank you for those that gave their lives to protect our freedom.  It’s the least we can do.

Yeah…

I like

  • my job
  • the people I work with (most of them anyway)
  • my church
  • opening the fridge even when I know there’s nothing I want
  • making mixed CDs
  • studying road maps (I don’t know why, but I rarely have to ask for directions)
  • ethnic food
  • walking around barefoot
  • the sound of wood breaking (random)
  • natural disasters (don’t judge me)
  • a cold beer after a long day
  • women (this is in no particular order by the way)
  • listening to people (even though it doesn’t seem that way at times)
  • road trips (more so if I’m driving)
  • aluminum foil (again, random)
  • being at the beach
  • taking pictures that are not posed
  • change

I dislike

  • whiny people
  • stupid people (hey, I’m honest)
  • ketchup on  burgers
  • posed pictures
  • change (yeah, I know it’s in both places)
  • inconsiderate drivers
  • cheap beer (cheap alcohol period for that matter)
  • one-ply toilet paper
  • talks about politics
  • talks about religion
  • talks about her (does anyone know that country song??)

I quit!!

This is a video of a 10 year old kid playing Trace Bundy’s version of Canon in D. Trace has a unique style of playing guitar that leaves people stunned and amazed. Now watching this little kid break out with this is flat out disgusting. I mean, the guitar is bigger than he is! That’s just not right. Watch it and you’ll see.

Just throwing this out there…

It is Thursday morning and I am extremely tired.  Left for Longview yesterday at 7:30.  Today I’ll spend most of the day and early evening in Lufkin for a program, and then I’ll drive back home to Tyler.   Friday I think I’m in the office but we’re supposed to present to the administration team.  Saturday I’ll be helping with the softball and soccer tryouts.  Yeah…I want a day off!

Because I am mean!

This is strictly to annoy the crap out of someone. I told her i would put these on the net and as promised here they are. If you’re scratching your head and wondering what the hell I’m talking about…don’t.

Deodorant check?

Raise your hand if you’re sure…

Like I said, I’m mean but a promise is a promise. I’ve got a reputation to uphold!

Catch and Release

I bought this movie earlier today and I must say that it was great.  I’ve been in the habit lately of buying movies that I’ve never seen before.  I remember seeing the previews a while back and since I’m not a big movie theater guy I forgot all about it.  It’s a good one.  I recommend you check it out.  Plus it has Jennifer Garner and that’s always a good thing!

This weekend is my first completely free weekend I’ve had in a while.  Work has been extremely busy lately and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down as we go into the summer.  These next couple of months are extremely busy on the Admissions side.  We tend to get out big application rush about this time.  Coincidently it’s the time when most students realize they aren’t going to their first choice of Harvard and Yale.  It’s interesting the mind of a high school senior.  Worse than that is the mind of a parent of a high school senior.  I’ve seen parents get extremely pissed at recruiters and admissions officers because little Timmy didn’t get accepted with their 1.2 gpa’s and whopping ACT score of 12.  Now a days it’s all about blaming someone else even though their child may be a dumb ass.  That may sound harsh but it’s what I’ve had to deal with a lot in the last 2 years of recruiting.  Enough of that.

The other aspect of my job is taking off great.  This summer I’ll spend a lot of time developing new communication strategies for the school and seeing what old ones need to be  thrown out.  I’ll also continue learning more about the marketing and PR side of things, especially my department budget.  It’s really exciting to be doing something new and it just happens to be what I want to do.  How many people out there can really say that they love their jobs?  I don’t bring home the biggest paycheck.  I can really get a job somewhere else and make more money if I wanted to.  I really like where I am right now and it’s nice not to have to worry about money.

Well, back to my restful, uneventful Saturday.  I think it’s going to rain pretty soon.  Stay dry.

And so it is…

Well, I really do have a good excuse for why I haven’t posted in a while.  This is the first time I’ve had my computer home in about 2 weeks.  I had to take it up to work with me because it’s the only computer that has what I need to take care of the multimedia projects I was working on.  Yes I had it with me at work and it was online.  So.  I was at work.  They pay me to work, not too blog.  I do however read blogs from work!

Really these past 2 weeks have been pretty hectic for me.  That tends to happen when you have 2 jobs in 2 different departments.  I’ve really been working heavily in my communications role lately and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down.  There’s just so much that needs to be done in that area.   Hence the reason why they promoted me to the position.  Right now I’m in the beginning stages of developing the “communication outlook” for the college.  I’ll be setting up various S.O.P.’s (standard operating procedures) for things such as press releases and guidelines for publishing print material.  I’m also learning my budget, which consists of a few hundred thousand dollars and will grow and the years go by.  Yeah, that part is a little intimidating but pretty cool at the same time.  Basically, my grown up job just got a little more grown up.   Most of that budget consists of marketing and advertising.  I’ll be the one in charge of those areas as well.  So when you see something on TV about Lon Morris College or hear a radio ad, that will be my doing.  Pretty cool I think.

That’s all I feel like writing about now.  Buh bye.
