Happy Birthday Ryan
Well finally, here’s an actual update of what I have been doing. This weekend I had the pleasure to go to Six Flags in Arlington. It had been about 7 years since my last visit. The reason for this trip was for a “bachelor party” for Justin since he’ll be getting married on Saturday. Oh yeah, I’ve been doing everything I can to give him a little grief over the wedding night. Hey, that’s what I do. It was fun. I did my couple of roller coasters and then I was done. My body doesn’t react to those rides like they used to! They still had my favorite there which is the Batman so I was happy. Hung out there for a few hours and then we went to eat in Downtown Dallas. We decided we were going to walk around aimlessly in a huge circle before we ate; we wanted to make sure we had a big appetite…yeah we couldn’t find anything in the area that we were! We did eventually find this place called the Iron Cactus. It’s a 3-story Mexican Grill. Normally I’m a little apprehensive about Mexican places since it’s all the same, but since we have been walking around for an hour we went for it. It was the best menu selection I’ve seen in a Mexican restaurant! I was really impressed and the prices were reasonable as well. I went with the Cancun Snapper. It’s a grilled snapper with grilled crab and lobster meat on top, served with asparagus spears and cilantro lime rice. Extremely good and well worth the aimless wandering! After dinner, I then made the trek to Nacogdoches.
Sunday was a day of golf. It was also extremely hot. Ryan, Clint and I decided to brave the heat and get a round of golf in. Not too shabby. I sort of got into my rhythm after a few holes. We decided we were going to play best ball. We’re not very serious about our scoring at this stage in our golfing careers. We wound up shooting a 79 overall, which is 7 over par. Not bad. The highlight of the day was when I nearly flipped our golf cart. Yes, that’s right. I nearly flipped a golf cart. One section of the cart path is an extremely steep path through the woods. Clint was ahead of us and he was going down at a decent speed. He did hit his brakes a couple of times to cause some “skiddage.” I decide to hit the brakes and coast the rest of the way down the hill since there were no more speed bumps. Yes it was that steep that it had speed bumps to make sure people slow down. After the last speed bump, I hit the brakes to start the skid. All is going well for about 2 seconds when the back end starts to come around. There wasn’t a lot of room for correcting since the path was pretty narrow. About a half second later, the front end hits the embankment, which causes the cart to bounce hard. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Ryan about 2 feet in the air. I think he may have hit his head on the top of the cart. I immediately climb halfway out of the cart to plant my left foot for support. Ryan decides he was going to get out of the cart…on my side. Actually, I don’t think it was his choice, that’s just the way gravity was telling him to go. So he’s out of the cart and I’m still halfway in, and we do get the cart stopped without flipping it over. I pop it into reverse and with some rocking, we get the cart back on the path. All of that happened in about 15 seconds. Pretty quick. That would have made for a nice headline. SFA Alums Die in Horrific Golf Cart Crash. They were sober. Yeah. Too bad Clint didn’t get any of that on video. Would have been great on Youtube. Oh well, no evidence.
That was my weekend. I’m back in Tyler now for a few days before heading back down to Nac for the wedding. I shall enjoy my vacation.
