Amidst all the chaos that was the last two weeks of my life, God has managed to reveal himself even more to me. Actually, I should say I have managed to see God more. He’s always there! There have really been some cool things develop for me and I just really have to say that it’s through God’s grace.
Recently I became the adviser for the student-led worship service here at LMC. For the past month or so, I’ve been getting the urge to jump back in the worship leading saddle. I was struggling to find out how I was going to do that with my crazy work schedule. Then, through conversation with one of the students, I was asked if I would like to be the staffulty (that’s an LMC thing) adviser. Coincidence? I think not. I’m really excited about this endeavor. For one, it gets me back in that familiar atmosphere of worship leading. Second, it’s a must for our campus and our students. There really is no reason why there hasn’t been a thriving student-led worship before. This will be good. This will be fun.
Last night was the first 4th Day service for the students. Wayne Kerr came in and was the guest worship leader. I had listened to some of his stuff years ago when I first came to college. Since then he had kind of fallen off my radar. I was his sound technician for the worship concert and I got a chance to talk to him extensively. I just have to say that he really is a cool and grounded guy. We got to talking about song writing and he really encouraged me to get back into it. He gave some good tips and pointers on how to get started and stuff which was really nice.
All summer I had been getting the urge to do more playing and worship gigs. This is similar to what I had mentioned previously about the worship leading. I just really miss the rush of playing live in front of people and seeing the spirit move within people. While we were setting up the chapel for the Wayne Kerr worship concert, I decided to plug my guitar in just to get started on some EQ before Wayne got there. 3 hours later and a raspy voice, I had that rush of adrenaline that I hadn’t experienced in quite a long time. Then, one of the students asked if I would like to lead worship for their retreat they’re taking in a few weeks. I’m still kind of stunned at how everything has been coming together lately. I’m really excited about all of it and really looking forward to how things turn out.
I’ll keep ya posted if I am able to start getting back into worship gigs. Until then…peace out.
Well, I didn’t get home last night until nearly 1 am. That’s why I wasn’t able to get this post up yesterday. Never fear, the show must go on.
This freak of nature is called Trace Bundy. This guy is truly a phenomenal guitar player. I can’t really describe it. You’ll just have to watch. Pay attention to the capo movement in this. The song is called “Love Song”
…that in a couple of weeks I’ll be back out on the road for 8 weeks. This summer has flown by so quickly my head is still spinning. This will be my third travel season and unfortunately, will most likely be the most stressful. Not looking forward to that part of it. I’ve already made the decision that this will be my last travel season no matter what. It is very stressful and tiring to continue to work that kind of a travel schedule year after year. I won’t go into details, thus sparing you a full on rant. I’m just saying that changes need to be made.
This weekend I’ll b e venturing over to Killeen to hang out with the family. That’s always refreshing, especially since I don’t have to cook anything! I’m really just looking forward to not having to worry about anything except resting and relaxing. I’ll probably come back early Monday afternoon sometime. I like to have plenty of downtime after driving before I have to think about going into work.
On another note, tomorrow night is the Wayne Kerr worship concert at Lon Morris College. He will be leading worship for the first 4th Day service (student-led worship). Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I’m the sponsor for that organization. I’m really excited about that because it gets me back into the worship gig. I’m basically there to offer any wise words of wisdom to help the group in leading worship. It’s going to be fun!
This has been one long freaking week. It’s the first week of school so all of the students have been moving in and getting things squared away. If that wasn’t enough, we had all sorts of events planned for them as well. Quite a hectic week to say the least. I’ve been spending the night in Jacksonville for most of the week. This is actually my first night back in Tyler. It’ll be nice to sleep in my own bed. I really am glad the students are back but I’m also glad that this week is almost over. I’m pretty tired now. That’s all for this post. Later suckas!
This is one of my new favorite songs of the moment. It’s done by Jeffrey Gaines but was written by Peter Gabriel. I like both versions but really prefer Jeffrey. I also love the fact that’s it’s a black man on the guitar making some real music. The song is called “In Your Eyes.”
This is one of my favorite artist out there. He really is a phenomenal musician, and he surrounds himself with other phenomenal musicians as well. This is probably my favorite song from Jason Mraz. As you may have noticed, I really love live performances. Enjoy.
