Happy Thursday to everybody. The week is almost over! Today’s edition features a band called Yellowcard. I only recently discovered them myself through itunes. I knew that they were a rock/pop, whatever you want to label it, type band but my first experience with them was acoustically. I was hooked immediately. This is one of their popular songs called “Ocean Avenue.” Enjoy.
This past weekend I had the opportunity to be a part of an organization a friend of mine created called LIFE (Leadership Is For Everyone). I have to tell you that it was one of the best experiences I’ve had in my relatively short life. I met so many amazing people that it really recharged my spirit! Yes, it was that good.
Here is the mission and values of LIFE as written in their guide book:
The purpose of Leadership Is For Everyone, Inc. is to invest in tomorrow by building better leaders today. We seek to serve our fellow men and women, especially young people, by modeling and teaching excellent leadership as a lifestyle. We achieve our goals through conducting various leadership training seminars, workshops, and “Weekends of a Lifetime.”
It is our belief that every person can be a leader in our world, and when we all participate in life as leaders, our world is changed for the better.
In building character and leaders, we believe five leadership components must be cultivated and developed to successfully fulfill our mission. All other components can be found embodied in these five tenets:
Integrity: Leaders must develop strong character and integrity, consistently doing what is right.
Excellence: Leaders must strive for excellence in all aspects of life: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Respect: Each leader needs to cultivate respect, sensitivity, cooperation, and empathy toward all others regardless of color, race, religion, or beliefs.
Balance: All of us are a combination of a mind, body, heart and soul. None of these aspects can be neglected. When there is a balance of the mind, body, heart and soul, leaders are best able to manage their lives enjoyably and successfully. Daily discipline helps us exercise and improve our personal balance.
People-centered: Leaders must be people-centered, investing positively in the lives of others and the world in which they live. It is our responsibility and privilege to help our fellow man.
We believe that each of us has a divine purpose for our lives. Fulfillment and satisfaction come from working toward and achieving that purpose.
I am happy to announce that I was voted onto staff by the other staff members. I am so excited about this opportunity I have to help make a difference in someone’s life. We have another camp, Weekend of a Lifetime, the first weekend in February and I can’t wait for it to get here. It was truly a unique atmosphere unlike any other I have experienced. I will definitely keep y’all updated on my experiences as I continue to grow within this organization.
Happy Thursday to y’all. This is actually like my Friday this week because I’m not coming into work tomorrow! That’ll be so great.
Today’s edition is reaching back a bit to an group that some might have forgotten already. This is Evanescence doing an acoustic version of the popular song My Immortal. Amy Lee has got a phenomenal and powerful voice. I love hearing her sing and I was especially pleased to find so many acoustic performances. I always love bands that are not afraid to strip it down and get real with their music. Here it is folks, Evanescence with “My Immortal.”
Or is it “Politics and I?” Whatever. I’ll be the first to say that I’m not that big of a follower of politics. To me, it’s just another way for the public to display their stupidity. I’m not saying that people who follow politics are stupid. Not at all. But there are always those that make stupid decisions based on stupid reasons. They also tend to be the most outspoken ones as well. My biggest pet peeve is how people tend to take the political stance of their favorite TV personality. For instance, it’s no secret that Obama has the backing of Oprah, Will Smith, and for the younger crowd David Beckham. How many people will vote for Obama simply because of those endorsements? I’ve even talked to a co-worker that is proud of the fact that they are voting for Obama. Ok, there’s nothing wrong with that. Then they were asked why they were voting for him. Speechless. Could not come up with a single reason. Yet, they are sure that’s who they’re going to vote for. In my mind, that’s just plain stupid. I don’t care who you are, that’s just stupid. I’ve never been one to criticize someone for their political stance. That’s their own business. But when you can’t even come up with one reason why you’re supporting someone, that’s a problem. That’s what I feel will be happening this election year, just the same as it has happened every election year. Have we become so lazy that we can’t even take the time to read up and do a little homework on the candidates before deciding who you’re going to vote for!? I mean it’s only January!
I’m not going to go into detail about my political stance or who I plan to vote for. For one, I’m still doing my research on all the candidates myself. I just wish more people would put more energy into studying what they think they believe instead of having diarrhea of the mouth. I don’t care who you vote for. It doesn’t matter if you vote for someone I choose not to. That’s fine. Just make sure you know why you’re voting for the person you choose. It’s not that hard. Put a little effort into it. Don’t be stupid.
Is it just me or is Kidz Bop the most creepy thing you’ve ever heard of? Every time I see the commercial I can’t help but cringe. It really creeps me out! Just thought I would share that.
I decided to follow up this week with another from the group that is Dispatch. If there was a song of theirs that most people recognize, this might be it. This was actually the song that introduced me to Dispatch. The song is called The General. All I can say is that this song is just fun. I love it! As always, I try to find live performances because that’s what I like. This is an appearance they made on The Late Show. The General….enjoy.
I’ve been asked how I manage to wake up so early every morning. I’ll be the first to tell you that I’m not a morning person! There are a couple of things you can do to wake up earlier than you normally do. The obvious one is to set an alarm. Duh. What I do when my alarm goes off is not to think about it. The more I think about it, the more I don’t want to get up. As soon as the alarm goes off, get up immediately. It’s also helpful to have the alarm across the room so you have to get up to turn it off. Once I’m up and moving I’m ok. Another thing that makes it a little easier is having a reason to be up that early in the first place. I meet a friend of mine to work out in the mornings so I know I have someone waiting for me. There’s really nothing much to it. If you’re not a morning person, it’s not going to be an enjoyable experience. You just got to suck it up and do it. After a while, it does get easier and your body will get used to it. It helps to go to bed at a sensible hour as well.
That’s it. Try it. Have a reason to get up that early in the first place. Suck it up. Good luck.
